The island of Haiti unites to observe Battle of Vertières Day, a significant event in their war for independence, every November 18. The Battle of Vertières, the final fight between the natives and the French army before Haiti gained freedom, is celebrated across the country. The victory led to Haiti becoming the first country to stage a successful slave revolution and the first postcolonial free state in Latin America.
The purpose of the Gala is for US2GETHER organization to raise enough fund towards “Improving” the health of a Haitian Child”, another revolution we want to take on.
We know that many of the millions of premature deaths are already preventable. For instance, “at least 2 million children a year die from diseases for which there are vaccines” says Dr. Nakajima.
The gap in the level of health between rich and poor must narrow. “It is time to realize that health is a global issue.”
Unless the investment in children is made, all of humanity’s most fundamental long-term problems will remain fundamental long-term problems.”—United Nations Children’s Fund.
We will do our part when it comes to responding to the critical need for access to healthcare of Haitian children who are living in poverty, while taking into considerations factors such as time, ethics, values, religion, perspective, and sociodemographic and cultural variables. We come to you! Every year, approved healthcare professionals will travel to Haiti for a week period to provide free medical care to the impoverished communities, starting in St Michel de L’Attalaye, Artibonite department of Haiti. The team will provide free cares for over 100 pediatric patients providing free medication to each patient as part of a sustainable health care program.
